Welcome to the Wongery!
The Wongery is a site for information about imaginary worlds. The
core features of the Wongery are the
Central Wongery, a wiki with content created by
the site's owners, and the Public Wongery,
where anyone can post their creations. All of the main content of
these wikis is released under an open license, so anyone can use it
for their own works, subject to the license's conditions.
Furthermore, aside from the description of the world, there are pages
devoted to additional applications, including RPG statistics, LEGO
models, and more.
If you're new here, feel free to browse the Central
Wongery or the Public Wongery, check out
the forum, or read the blog
to see a bit of the site's history.
(Yes, we know the site could really use some illustrations, among other things. The Wongery
is still very much a work in progress.)
So, I suppose not unexpectedly, the long-awaited "hard launch" of the Wongery did not immediately lead to a huge amount of engagement. There have been maybe two posts not by me on the forum since January, and nobody has posted anything yet to the Public Wongery. Part of this was no doubt due to the very limited nature of the hard launch, and part of it is no doubt due to the fact that the Wongery just doesn't have the content I'd hoped for it to have before the launch; I'm still not sure the hard launch wasn't premature, but I'd put it off long enough already that I didn't want to put it off longer.
Anyway, I guess the upside is that once it does have content, since I've already let the cat out of the bag I won't feel compelled to wait for some specific anniversary or other meaningful date to publicize it. Although I don't know when I'm going to be able to put in the time to actually make the content I want it...
First of all, to forestall any misinterpretation of the title of this blog post: No, my plans for the Wongery haven't changed in any drastic way. I suppose there have been small refinements to my plans over time, but my goals haven't changed, even if some of the details have (such as exactly what subspaces I wanted in the Wongery). But even in terms of those details I don't think there have been any noteworthy changes lately.
No, the plan the title refers to is not my intentions and designs for the Wongery, but rather its hosting plan. Should I have picked a different title, one not as potentially misleading? Eh, yeah, probably; whatever.
I'd mentioned in a few posts in late December (most notably this one) that I had purchased a new hosting plan, to which I planned to migrate the Wongery (and a few other sites). The main reason for this was to separate it from my other sites. As I've also mentioned many...
So, I said I wasn't going to make a blog post every time we post a new article to the Central Wongery mainspace (as unfortunately infrequent as that event has lately been), but there has just been an article about a whole new world posted, and I think that merits a little more magnification. (Only a little, though). So... introducing the world of Meliauth, an alternate Earth where strange beings from other worlds work in secret to harvest numen, with potentially disastrous consequences for the world's native inhabitants.
Of course, when I say it's an article about a whole new world, I mean, well, just that; it's one article. It gives a general overview of the world, but doesn't flesh it out in detail. That will come with other articles. Eventually. But... I'm afraid it's going to be a while.
I do plan somewhat ahead the order of articles we're going to post; the Meliauth article is mainspace article number 345 (not counting redirects,...
